About the Charity
Young Epilepsy is the national charity dedicated to supporting children and young people, aged 25 and under, with epilepsy and related conditions. There are an estimated 112,700 children and young people with epilepsy in the UK; approximately one child in every primary school and 5 in every secondary school. We exist to enable them to fulfil their potential and have the best quality of life possible.
In 1904 Young Epilepsy started a unique integrated health, education and care service at the St Piers campus in Lingfield, Surrey, for children with epilepsy and complex neurological conditions. The main aim of St Piers School and College is to help these young people achieve their full potential and prepare for adult life. Epilepsy is a complex condition characterised by recurrent seizures and often associated with behavioural and cognitive difficulties and mental health problems. Young Epilespy’s St Piers School and College strives to provide a safe, stimulating and friendly environment in which those with the most complex epilepsies can learn.
In addition to St Piers, Young Epilepsy also operates an internationally renowned research programme with Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCL, and provides practical guidance and support for thousands of parents, children and young people across the UK.
